Story Elements - A Pumpkin Craftivity for Fall
Get your students thinking about story elements in their reading with this fun Fall book-tivity. You can use these Plot Pumpkins with any book – from read alouds, to shared reading, to guided reading, to independent reading.
Students will answer each of the six questions about story elements using a well-formed paragraph (plot, characters, setting, problem, resolution, and theme). Paragraphs should contain evidence of their own thinking, as well as evidence from the text (as outlined in the rubric). A rubric is included for a summative assessment of the book they are using, which makes this a great option for a non-traditional book report.
This resource contains options for two different sizes of pumpkins – one on full sheets (great for display in a larger area and writing longer answers), and one on half sheets (great for smaller display areas and shorter answers). Print only the size you need.
You have three different options for printing (you want your pumpkins to be sturdy enough to stand on their own):
- Print on orange construction paper so your students don’t have to color the pumpkins after (a good option if time is a factor)
- Print on cardstock (students will color the pumpkin pages)
- Print on regular paper, then glue onto construction paper and cut out around the pumpkin shape (students will color the pumpkin pages)
For easier completion, be sure students complete each page BEFORE they assemble the pumpkin.
This resource is included in my October Craftivities - Literacy Themed Craftivities which contains 3 different craftivities perfect for the month of October.
