Learning Objective

After reading a short story, students will identify the exposition, rising action, climax, falling action, and resolution.

This engaging activity puts a fun spin on identifying the concept of setting, plot, and theme! It would also make for a great pre-Halloween activity (although the story does not refer to Halloween and thus can be used throughout the school year)!

I split this activity into two days.

Day 1- Students read the short story "Wesley Wormley and the Potion Commotion". Then students complete a worksheet to identify plot, setting, and theme elements.

Day 2- Students correct any mistakes on their worksheets, and then complete the craftivity by following the student-friendly directions that the teacher can place under the doc camera.

**This product includes the same basic story in 2 formats:

- A SHORTER version is provided to fit the needs of younger learners, learners that struggle with reading proficiency, OR a limited timeframe to complete the project.

- A LONGER version is provided to fit the needs of older learners or learners that excel with reading proficiency.

This product also includes detailed instructions (with photos!!) for your students to follow. It also includes a teacher instruction page that lists the exact materials you need to prepare for this craftivity.

**IMPORTANT NOTE: This story is very similar to one of the scripts in my Halloween Readers' Theater BUNDLE resource. This is intentional! I will use BOTH of these resources in my classroom in October. My students will complete this foldable the week BEFORE Halloween, and then during Halloween week, they will do the Readers' Theater activities. Once the Readers' Theater is performed, we will, as a class, COMPARE and CONTRAST stories! (The setting and theme are the same, but the plot is a bit different!)

Here is the link to the Readers' Theater resource:
