This complete lesson plan for grades 7-12 includes a warm up, learning activity, notes, and exit ticket. Students will visit a "museum" in order to construct their own understanding of how the Electoral College works and its shortfalls. Students will learn how population determines allotted electoral votes, the difference between popular and electoral votes, and consider the role of third parties in the electoral outcomes.
Students love looking at the sets of electoral maps to reason out answers to the prompts on the graphic organizer. The learning activity allows for social behavior through collaborative learning and movement within the classroom.
