This easily-customizable resource will provide you with an hour of instruction and practice for your middle school students. You can use the example that is included (Brown v. BOE) or simply swap out the excerpts for that topic and include your own. This comes with strategies, a poster design, and two opportunities for student practice, which come with exemplars. It can be used for any informational texts, whether humanities or sciences. You simply have to customize the content on particular slides and handouts, and distribute to students. There is a detailed lesson plan within the PowerPoint, and this is also accessible via a link to Google Drive. You'll want this for research projects.
