I teach nine and ten year olds and created this resource to cater for the different spelling abilities in my class. The resource would be suitable for primary students aged 9 to 12.
It contains plurals spelling lists. The lists have been organised into three ability levels and range from basic words to quite sophisticated vocabulary. I set five of these words for homework each week and teach composite classes so I have created an even and odd year set of words within each level. For the top students, these spelling words are often more about developing vocabulary so they have to write them into sentences each week.
Accompanying the lists are three dictations I have written that use target words from the lists. Instructions on how to administer the dictations are included as well as a marking guide and a list of key teaching points.
This is a free resource and I will be putting up a range of other lists based on different spelling rules and conventions. The next ones that will be available will be for long vowel sounds. Watch this space!
Note that we use UK spelling in New Zealand but most words are spelt the same universally.
