Math and the Mayflower
Bundle Description

This bundle is a terrific source for all things Plymouth and Pilgrims. Whether you replace the textbook and teach in a more constructivist approach, or you just want to supplement your curriculum with some hands-on, active learning, this bundle will help in authentic, fun ways.

Included:

  • Students will begin with a constructivist activity recreating the timeline of events using primary source journal entries. The students will illustrate the descriptions written in the readings and piece together the story of Plymouth.
  • Next is the close read giving information like dates, people, and events. Included is a graphic organizer to help the students learn to read for information, vocabulary cards, and a quiz!
  • After the close read, it is important for the students to compare and contrast Plymouth with Jamestown. Students will read about Jamestown in a close read and utilize note pages and a Venn Diagram to compare and contrast the choices made by the settlers.
  • Finally, students will get an opportunity to play as though they were settlers in Plymouth Colony with our Dice Simulation Game. Included in this is a visual essay with questions reviewing the facts of the settlement. The simulation can end with students writing their own journal entries as though they were settlers of Plymouth.

Should your students be older or strong fifth grade math students, take advantage of our Free Bonus Math and the Mayflower! You can adjust the lesson for all learners, or use it to springboard discussion about the Mayflower and conditions of travel.
