You can use these 9 chapter worksheets to gauge reading comprehension without confusing it with students' writing abilities. This twelve-question-per-chapter approach in multiple choice style allows the students to read the chapter in class (together or individually), spend time answering the questions, correct it together as a class (getting immediate feedback), and turn in their graded work to the teacher, who can easily interpret the students' abilities in a matter of minutes.
The teacher has control over what resources the students can use while completing the questions since it's all done in class: partners, dictionaries, ask the teacher questions, or work silently by themselves using only the book's glossary. Every student completes the work - no work is lost and no one is left to finish it at home (and forget to do it or copy!).
I have even put the answer boxes for students to write in the letters so you can visually grade them faster. The answer guide is also included.
The multiple choice questions should be combined with a vocabulary log to practice new words with each chapter as well as more in-depth activities (assignments or projects) throughout the book. Alternately, the teacher could use these multiple choice questions for tests only (I recommend making it an open book test, as some answers are pretty specific).
I highly recommend you read the chapters and try the worksheets before giving them to your students since you know your students' abilities and can anticipate words or ideas they might find more difficult. Feel free to edit the questions as needed.
Apart from the 9 worksheets, also included are:
• Two guided questions for each chapter to help students connect their background info and prior experiences to what the characters will experience in the book
• Ideas for open-ended reading comprehension activities that students can pick from
• Suggested vocabulary to study for each chapter with implementation ideas
NOTE: These materials match Pobre Ana (original) , not the "moderna" version of the book.
