This is an excerpt from the complete Pockets Change Financial Literacy Curriculum, which teaches students personal finance skills, entrepreneurship, stock market, and real estate basics. All lessons are also tied to common core and national standards. They are differentiated and use experiential learning techniques and help students hone 21st century learning skills.

In this lesson, students define stock and create a model of the history of the stock market. Through this visual creation, students analyze trends in the stock market over time and identify profits and
losses. Teacher’s Note: The stock market had 295 stocks available by 1800 and has grown immensely since. This unit, while expansive, does not explore the current stock exchanges but rather gives students a broader sense of the market and investing within it.

This lesson includes standards, activity description, key terms, assessment, and all necessary worksheets.
