This activity was so much fun- next year I'll be using it as reading/lit center.
Students will be "hired" by a Podcast feed to promote a Podcast feed and episode!
The activity includes listening to and reflecting on a Podcast they choose, answering critical thinking questions about the Podcast, determining the narrator and audience, and finally illustrating a story map. The student's goal is to appeal to potential "sponsors" that may decide to fund the Podcast. To do this they need to be able to explain through the packet what happened in the Podcast episode in detail (by answering several critical thinking questions), and create enticing logos for both the station and the station episode.
We used Stitcher Stories Podcast feed because it's child friendly and works without needing to download an application. The packet will take around three days to complete and includes a rubric. This can also be completed as a whole class as you could choose one Podcast to listen to. This is a great no-prep way to integrate technology and share with them something new, especially meaningful for distracted or struggling readers- they loved this audio activity. Great end of the year activity.
