PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Improve student writing authentically by podcasting. Podcasting is creating an audio recording that is meant to be listened to. When students write and read their writing, the revision process becomes more meaningful.

Use with ANY technology with this unit. I have listed my four favorite apps and websites across platforms (internet, iOS, and Windows).

Easy teacher implementation. You do not have to have your own podcast or even know how to podcast to use this unit. The lesson plans will teach you and students how to podcast.

Use this unit after teaching the basics of argument
and informational writing. It is meant to reinforce and improve essay writing skills-- especially revision, voice, and style.

Students write weekly essays and then record them! My students even wrote their essays without complaining. In fact, when my students podcast, they seem to love writing! The authenticity of the writing experience gives students purpose and gets them excited to write.

The unit has 8 days of lesson plans. After the lessons students will spend two days weekly to produce a weekly podcast OR one day a week to produce a biweekly podcast. Prompts for 5 podcasts are included, but you can add or take away podcasts as needed. (I do not recommend less than 4 podcasts.) A final 1-2 days for revision and the assessment is needed. That is a total of about 20 days. Each lesson plan is for a 90 minute class period.

After writing and recording all of the podcasts, students choose their two best podcasts for you to grade. (Each podcast will be about 2 1/2 minutes.)

One of my colleagues said, "This is the best thing that ever happened to my students' writing," and I can't agree more. My students have become better and faster writers through podcasting.
