Ready, Set, Read is an awesome poem that I recreated for my scholars.
At the beginning of the school year, we recite this poem, as a class, each and every day until it they are able to say it on their own.
As a teacher, you will begin to how their focus toward reading changes, just by affirming this poem to themselves.
In addition to the poem, I have created bookmarks that scholars can use while reading in school or at home.
For the lower grades, you can use this poem to identify rhyming words and discuss how pictures help illustrate your writing.
For the upper grades, you can use this poem to inspire your readers to create poetry about other topics.
Another suggestion is to make all of these things available in your classroom: magazines, newspapers, recipe books/cards, eBooks, pictures of street signs and other environmental reading resources.
What about displaying this poem next to your word wall and have your scholars bring in new word that they have learned from their reading.
Here's an idea. use this to inspire a 100 book challenge!
The possibilities are endless.
If you like this resource, please give it a positive rating. I will be posting more poems like this very soon.
