Description

Reading a poem aloud can help students to better understand the poem’s language and meaning. It requires students to re-read the poem multiple times and to make decisions about emphasis for pacing and pauses. This gives students a chance to experience the poem. This activity works well with any poem or poetry unit, and can be done with published or student-written poems.

This project requires time to present and/ or ability for students to record. Students can use an audio recording, a video recording, or a live presentation in the classroom. Another option is to allow students comfortable with presenting the opportunity while others may choose to record (technology and time permitting.)
