An engaging and thorough PowerPoint designed to guide pupils through various poetic techniques. The presentation uses excerpts and examples from the works of Roald Dahl to help pupils understand and relate to the work better.
The techniques studied are simile, metaphor, alliteration, onomatopoeia, rhyme & rhythm and personification.
I've found my pupils always respond really well to the Dahl examples and it encourages them to come up with their own creative and unique examples.
I follow this by looking at a poem together as a class and identifying all the techniques we have learned. It's a great way to consolidate pupil learning and check for understanding.
