With step-by-step instructions, you'll teach students to create 3-D art displays to brighten any season or holiday. Diamante poems accentuate the artwork and review parts of speech (nouns, verbs, adjectives.) Photos depict spring displays, but the same techniques can be used for any season (fall/winter/summer/spring), or holiday (Easter, Christmas, Mother's Day, Halloween, etc.)
Updated 10/2014 to include Halloween sample.
Updated 12/2014 to include Winter/Christmas sample.
*poetry and art teaching notes, ideal for both classroom and homeschool settings. (Art notes teach how to create the display--individual decorations like trees, flowers, etc, will vary and are up to the individual artist.)
*photos and examples of student poetry and artwork. A picture of an anchor chart to support the poetry lesson is also included.
*handouts: Synonym Diamante, Antonym Diamante, Diamante examples, and final copy paper.
Suggested ages: Although the lesson is best suited for students in 3rd-6th grades, I've successfully done it with second grade classes...I just had to prep the basic background ahead of time. Younger students will need guidance and may need to have the backgrounds pre-stapled; older students can independently complete the diamante poems and produce more detailed art displays.
