Product Description

OVERVIEW:

This product is available as part of a bundle for Collection 3 as well as individually sold here.

These interactive notebook activities are a fun way to help your students compare two texts of poetry, by learning about poetic forms and alliteration. Students will also learn about Hurricane Katrina and its devastating effects through video notes, which will help them to understand the poems. Additionally, there are three writing opportunities to cite text evidence, analyze poetry and write an original poem of their own. Filled with cute illustrations and step-by-step directions, these activities are specifically designed to enhance the Comparing Text selections “After Katrina” and “Watcher” from HMH Collections 3 Grade 6.

Common core-based lesson plans, rubrics and keys are all included as well as easy to cut pieces that save time. Every teacher has their own preference for notebook types. So, I have decided to design as a full 8 ½”X 11” inch page, which can be reduced on a copier by 75% to fit composition notebooks, but would require trimming. I usually print off two pages per sheet on the copier and then cut in half, so I only have 1 cut and it fits perfectly into the composition book.

THESE ACTIVITIES INCLUDE:

1. Preview video activity with student writing

2. Vocabulary Notes and Student Activity (5 different activities included to give more vocabulary activity choices for teachers and students)

3. Main Idea graphic organizer for “After Katrina” and Visualizing activity

3. Poetry foldable

4. Alliteration guided notes with key and 3 poetry activities that include a graphic organizer and writing

5. Poetic form guided notes with key

6. Writing to Compare and Contrast

7. Rubric for Expository Writing

8. Performance Task brainstorming activity and writing activity

9. Rubric for writing for task, audience and purpose.
