Students will use their knowledge of poetry to create a poem inspired by watercolor paintings. In addition, students will analyzing their poems and create an inspired watercolor painting of their own.
Students will begin by reviewing key poetry terms like stanza, verses, lines, refrain, rhyme scheme, figurative language, mood and tone. Students will then watch a PowerPoint that introduces the assignments and famous watercolor paintings.
Students will write a poem to explain a painting of their choosing. Their poem will be written in lines or verses and have at least four stanzas. Each stanza will have at least four lines. The poem will have three types of figurative language and a rhyme scheme or refrain.
Students will then reflect upon their poem with a two page worksheet.
Finally, students will be asked to create their own watercolor painting inspired by the original painting.
