This interactive poetry analysis focuses on making predictions based on text titles, summarizing or paraphrasing what students read, and finding connections. The poems used for this activity can be found on Commonlit.org or at the teacher’s discretion.

Teachers can PRINT or SHARE this document digitally! The file is intended to be DIGITAL, but could easily be printed and shared with students.

The second activity included with the poem is a writing practice on common THEME. Students practice writing a thesis statement plus TWO topic sentences for support and text evidence. The outline is color coded to make it easier for students to visualize the different pieces and components of writing. Teachers could easily modify the writing activity to best fit their individual needs!
