Analyze and Write Poetry with Poetry Bingo!
Reading, analyzing, and writing poetry can be fun with Poetry Bingo! Students use bingo grids to find elements of poetry, citing their evidence as they work to complete a horizontal, vertical, or diagonal row -- or to fill the entire board!
This versatile and engaging resource can be used in a variety of ways:
– Use Poetry Bingo as a pre-assessment, a practice activity, or a post-assessment.
– Use the bingo grid to have students define the terms.
– Analyze a poem, forming a horizontal, vertical, or diagonal line with evidence of the figurative language and elements of poetry found in the poem.
– Have students write a poem, using the Bingo grid to choose the elements of poetry included in the poem.
– Assign a relevant topic (i.e.: Westward Expansion, electricity, the title of a novel the class is reading) and have students fill in the Bingo grid using phrases and elements of poetry related to the topic. Then have them turn their phrases into a poem.
– Have students write a poem, then revise it to be sure they have included elements of poetry from their Bingo grid.

These bingo grids can also be used to review poetic terms, study author's craft, analyze prose for figurative language, analyze song lyrics, or include figurative language in students' writing!
Differentiate your practice and review with 4-square poetry bingo (same game, with 16 terms) or with 5-square bingo (same game, 25 terms).
Alternatively, students can progress from 3-square bingo to 5-square bingo as the class learns new terms.
