PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Are you looking for a way to help students analyze poetry and really GET it without having to learn all about the poem and the poet yourself? Don't worry because I've done the hard work for you! You get to do the fun part!

You can set up literacy centers, use it with small groups, or as whole class instruction. It's your choice!

All 9 poems on the 4th & 5th grade CCSS ELA Text Exemplar list are included in this bundled set priced to give you 2 task card sets FREE!

Each poem has 12 task cards with questions and answers keys, plus a foldable student answer booklet for recording and citing evidence from the text. To enhance your lessons, also included mini poet biography and quick summary of the poem with notes for the teacher. I've done that hard work of analyzing the poems and researching the poets for you! You can use this set right away with NO PREP for you!

Each poem with task cards is ready to print and use. You could easily analyze one poem each week for 9 weeks or use it as a literature center activity.

In addition to the task cards, each poem has a one-page “Meet the Author” page and Acrostic Poem worksheets. These make a great extension or center activity for differentiation.

The student answer recording booklet is designed to print back-to-back using only 3 sheets of paper.

To build your teachers background knowledge, I’ve included a summary of the poem, teacher tips and notes, and suggested online web links to the poem, videos or audio links so students can hear the rhythm of the poetry. Also included are “I Can” statements for 4th and 5th grade Common Core in student language ready to print and hang up on your concept or focus wall.

Students will cite evidence from the text in their response.

While this set analyzes poems on the 4th & 5th grade Common Core Text Exemplar list, it would help students in other grades learn to analyze poems.

I do not believe these four poems are in the public domain, therefore due to copyright laws, I can’t include them in this set, but I have included links to websites where you might find them online. I have also included a template for you to place the student version of he poem. (Note: I am not selling the links; they are provided as a convenience.)
