This slideshow includes twenty different poems for your intermediate and middle school students to read and analyse. Nine different poetic forms are included and there are two poems for each form*. Both original and classic poems are featured. Use this slideshow to explore each poetic form before inviting your students to try writing their own!

Poetic Forms Included:

· Acrostic

· Alternating Rhyme

· Concrete or Shape Poetry

· Couplet

· Epitaph

· Free Verse

· Haiku

· Tanka cards

· Limerick cards

I have included a pdf and a powerpoint in a zip file.

Check out the preview to see a sneak peek!

* Four examples of concrete poetry have been included instead of two.

I like to pair these cards with my poetry sample cards so students can be exposed to a variety of different kinds of poetry and find poems they love. I also provide students with a poetry notebook so they can try writing their own poems!
