Product Description
This Poetry analysis worksheet is perfect for your students to analyze any poem that they read! It forces students to take a closer look at the poems they read and gain a deeper understanding of the author’s use of poetry to communicate his/her ideas.

Concepts included on the worksheet:
1. Summarizing literal meaning
2. Determining poetic form
3. Identifying rhyme scheme
4. Identifying sensory images
5. Determining types of rhyme (internal vs. end rhyme, exact, slant)
6. Identifying literary devices (similes, metaphors, alliteration, onomatopoeia,
repetition, allusions, symbolism, hyperbole, and personification)
7. Determining the theme of the poem
8. Determining the speaker
9. Determining tone
10. Giving a personal response

This worksheet can be used in a whole class discussion of a poem or on an individual level. Keep a stack of these worksheets in a literacy center along with a copy of different grade level appropriate poems for students to read and interact with during workshop, as an early finishers activity, or even as a substitute plan.

These are also great for a CLOSE reading activity! Read the poem the first time together to get the main “gist” of the poem. Then, work through the worksheet during a second read to dig deeper. There’s no need to create a separate sheet for each poem you read. It’s all here!
