Use these winter season bell ringer prompts to give students practice reading and analyzing poems quickly. Each handout requires students to provide theme topics, theme statements, and text support for their responses. There are five classic poems and bell ringers in total (these could last one week or five weeks depending on how you use them). If desired, students can choose their own poems to analyze and use the blank template.
Poems included follow:
Snow by Walter de la Mare
Snowflakes by Fannie Isabel Sherrick
The Old Year by John Clare
The Snow-Storm by Ralph Waldo Emerson
Holidays by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
Instructions for using the bell ringers and sample keys for each poem are provided in the resource. Furthermore, several suggestions are provided for using these handouts as other activities.
