126 Poet bios and poems. A great way to expose your students to a wide array of poets. Print these cards front and back and laminate. The front offers a brief bio and image. The back provides a single poem.
Here are just a few ways to use these cards:
Number the cards and students survey them throughout the year, keep on a ranking sheet, to see the poems/poets they liked the most.
Students pick a card from the stack and find the literary elements you are working on in class.
Use as a writing prompt. They pick a card from a stack, then write a response to the poem.
Use as a test prep—they pick a poem then connect it to some other text they know—a story, novel, article. They write a compare/contrast on how the author/poets approached the same theme.
Write a reader response to the poem.
Use as in between time when students finish work early.
