Haiku is a fun form of poetry for students to read and write. It is short, but that doesn’t mean it is easy! With this activity, students will explore haiku while being exposed to a variety of figurative language.
Use this activity just like the magnetic fridge poetry, except the strips include full likes of haiku! There are 32 lines with 5 syllables, and 16 lines with 7 syllables…for thousands of poem combination possibilities!!
**Note**This is also part of a Bundle!
Many lines include figurative language including: imagery, personification, simile, metaphor, hyperbole, onomatopoeia, and alliteration.
Now included with and without syllable counts.
There are several different printing options: 1) magnetic paper 2) stick your own magnets 3) just print on card stock
There are also several extension ideas included for students to write and display their poems as well as analyze them. As a bonus, you will find a figurative language sorting activity. Detailed teacher notes are included with lots of options to make this activity work in your classroom!
This makes a simple poetry center that is fun and engaging but also requires critical and creative thinking!
