This kit includes a poetry center for each of the five lessons in unit 6 of the HMH National Journeys 2017 Kindergarten series.
The first two pages of each lesson’s poetry center should be photocopied back-to-back. The third page has the poem in out-of-order strips. That page has enough copies for three students.
Before we do the center, I teach the whole class the rhyme, and we discuss the use of the high-frequency word of the week. Students are directed to color the picture on the front. Then they flip the paper over, cut the sentence strips apart, and re-construct the poem in the correct order, using my example, or using first letter/punctuation clues to match another copy of the poem. At the bottom of the back page, students rainbow write the sight words (not scribble coloring!) with at least 5 different colored crayons.
