We used this as an introduction activity for our K-8 unit on Poetry. We provided copies of famous, grade-appropriate poems for the students to chose from. They had the option to work with partners or on their own to read the poem and complete the activity page.
After completing the activity page, the students came back together to discuss their poems. Each group had a chance to share what they discovered about how rhyme and word choice affected the theme and meaning of the poem. We also discussed that poems can be serious or silly, literal or abstract.
