Get your students excited about poetry with this hands-on, interactive escape room. Students will work through five different classic poems (Robert Frost, Claude McKay, Amy Lowell, Georgia Douglas Johnson, and Edgar Guest). Using their knowledge of symbolism, rhyme scheme, repetition, figurative language, and metaphor, students will work to unlock clues to return missing poets to their poems. The game ends when the winning team identifies which poet wrote each poem.
The Poetry Escape Room includes a fun training day with a poetic elements matching game and a poem analysis worksheet for individual review. After the training day, students will be ready to save the day in the escape room!
The Poetry Escape Room includes:
-38 pages of instructions, worksheets, clues, exit ticket reflection, poetry, task cards, and detailed directions for photocopying, hiding clues, and setting up your classroom.
-Frequently Asked Questions page to answer any escape room questions
-A BlockPoster with five poet bios that students build in groups as their final clue
-Training day matching game and poetry analysis worksheet
Enjoy seeing your students truly engaged in poetry! This activity is a great way to review or kick start any poetry study.
