Get your students up and moving with this Poetry Gallery Walk! Cut out the poetry cards and hang them up throughout your classroom. Pair up your students with a partner and have them visit each card to determine whether the poem is an example of patterned, free verse, or rhymed poetry. I suggest giving students clip boards so that they have a hard surface to record their answers on their answer document, which is included!
I like to give them about two minutes at each card to read the poem and to discuss its characteristics. Then, I play a few seconds of a song, and the song clip indicates to the students that it is time to rotate and travel to the next poetry card. They love it when I play current songs that they are loving (school appropriate, of course)!
Once all students have visited the cards, bring the class back together and go over the answers.
