Teach students to create deeper meaning in their own poems by painting images with their words. This lesson offers children a guide... listening to two poems with extremely vivid images. Children are asked to envision and then draw what they're seeing envisioning. This later pushes them to write with rich words (in poems of their own).
Note: The level/quality of the poems my fifth graders wrote after I delivered this lesson was much higher. Therefore, if your students aren't painting pictures in their reader's mind, this is a lesson you must deliver to your students!
