In our poetry unit this year, we are having a Poetry Podcasting Slam. In our classroom this means, someone records a reading of one of their favorite poems. Next, each student in the class listens to this poem and then completes a graphic organizer to make a connection to the poem. This form is the graphic organizer I use for students to record their reflections and connections to the poem. After students make these responses, the “best” connection to the poem is chosen by the teacher and this winner is the next person to voice record the next poem. The process then repeats as students “slam” each poem with their connections.
