This is a poetry portfolio project that allows students to both compose their own poems using specific literary elements (imagery, alliteration, simile/metaphor, rhyme scheme, and personification), and explore published poems of their choice that employ various literary elements.
In this project, students will write four poems (guidelines for each of the poems are in the instructions), include an image that represents their poem, and explanation of how the image represents their poem and how they used the literary element. Students will then search for two famous/published poems and write a paragraph explaining what literary elements that author used.
Included is a rubric that makes this project worth 200 points.
Depending on your students, you can make this a homework assignment (I would give 1-2 weeks to complete), or you could have this be something they work on over several class periods.
