These grading sheets are used to give students feedback after they recite a memorized poem. My first grade students memorize a poem every week and recite it for a grade on Friday. The grading sheets for the first half of the year are simple and positive. They have a short "comments" section where you can give your students pointers.
After winter break, the students are quite good at memorizing and reciting poetry, so I up the stakes (so to speak). I introduce the second grading sheet which is much more detailed. It includes a checklist of skills such as "memorization, volume, annunciation, creativity," etc. The students' grades depend on the number of points earned. I mark an "N" next to skills they could improve on, and boy do they rise to the challenge!
I made these grade sheets for use in my own classroom, but the students and parents liked them so much, I thought I'd put them out there for others to use. Hope you and your students enjoy! Thanks for your interest!
