This product is a simple format for students to follow when responding to poetry.
1. Choose a poem to read.
2. Read it TWO TIMES.
3. Using their journal, write a response answering as many of the 10 response questions as they can.
Some of the questions include:
"What did you think about the poem?"
"Does this poem remind you of any other poems?"
"Did the poet use any figurative language?"
"Were there any words or phrases you especially liked?"
"Does this poem remind you of anything of anything in your life?"
Students can turn the response in for a grade or keep it in their journal. Responses can also be completed on notebook paper. Or students could make a "Poetry Journal" in the unit where they write their own poems and respond to others'. This could be in a composition notebook or a 3 prong folder with notebook paper. Could also be placed in a Literacy Center for use throughout the year.
