This scavenger hunt contains ten cards, each with a different poem and skill focus. The skills are: determining rhyme scheme, similes, extended metaphors, narrative poem structure, theme, allusion, personification, alliteration, imagery, and summarizing. The section for students completing a story map is purposefully left blank so students can create a story map used in their school/grade/classroom.
The cards can be laminated and hidden throughout the classroom or used as task cards at a station. Either independently or with a partner, students use a QR Code reader app (many are free to download) or type in the corresponding url into a smartphone or other device to watch short videos to review the skills and to read the poems. Students then write their answers onto the answer sheet. The cards are numbered to correspond with the answer sheet, but students can complete the tasks in any order.
The assignment can be part of a self-directed mini-unit on poetry or completed as a review at the end of a unit on poetry.
