Description

Poetry Task Cards are all about types of poems and poetry terms. Students identify specific types of poems, write their own original poems, and work with poetry terms.

For each type of poem, there are two cards. One asks the student to find an example of that type of poem and then to describe how that type of poem is formed. The second card about each type of poem gives directions and asks students to write a poem of their own.

The poetry terms include the basics of figurative language, imagery, and poetry format with activities that include matching and other types of questions.

These task cards are designed specifically for middle school and upper elementary kids. The cards are large – two cards per page and have more content per card than many of the smaller task cards – perfect for older kids who can handle more than one quick question per card.

Included with this set is a blank answer sheet for students to fill in their answers.

Also included is a list of suggestions for ways to use task cards and a list of suggestions for easy differentiation with task cards.

Studying and writing poems helps students improve their reading and vocabulary skills as well as their skills at writing. Poetry skills such as using figurative language and imagery or writing within a limited format carry over to other types of reading materials and other forms of writing as well.

These cards can be used by kids at a variety of skill levels.

The Easel Activity is a digital version that is ready to use with one card per slide. It is ready for student use with answer boxes and directions already in place.

For the Google Slides version, see Poetry Task Cards and Google Slides.
