I created this PowerPoint for my 6th grade Language Arts class to help them review basic poetic devices and poetry terms. I made up a very simplified version of Jeopardy where the students are put in teams and given white boards to write their responses. Instead of choosing a dollar amount from a category, the PowerPoint goes sequentially through levels of questions with each level being worth more and more points with the final level being final Jeopardy where the students must wager their points. The following terms/devices are covered in this PowerPoint: hyperbole, mood and tone, rhyme, rhythm, rhyme scheme, simile, metaphor, personification, sensory detail, onomatopoeia, and alliteration. Actual poems are used in the question along with a few questions that requires that students provide their own examples. My students really enjoyed this PowerPoint. A fun way to review basic poetry terms!
