Description
As the school year winds down, and the students are in a lighter mood, tackling some funny poetry is the perfect way to end the year! With this Palm Poet-Tree, the students will learn three "funny" forms of poetry that will really get them ready for the summer ahead, while still holding them accountable to academic rigor!
The students will learn how to construct a Limerick, Clerihew, and List Poem. Students will be given examples of these in a "summer" and "end of the school year" theme.
They will then write their own examples, all within the same topic of "end of the year" and "summer break". The topic is rather open, and they can write about what they see around them, it should be accessible to all students in your classroom. To help them along, there is a brainstorming page with many different pictures of "summer break" designed to get their creative juices flowing!
Finally, all of the poems will be written on leaves in the shape of Palm leaves, attached to a Palm Tree Trunk and adorned with coconuts, mounted on a bulletin board, to form a "Poet-Tree"! The students get to be creative here, enjoying time to not only do some art, but write as well. This is the perfect cross-curricular activity!
CLICK THE PREVIEW TO SEE JUST WHAT A COMPLETED POET-TREE WILL LOOK LIKE!
Makes a great display as well as providing differentiated rigor for each level of student represented in your room.
Classroom tested. Great for a center, independent work, whole class instruction....even homework!
Includes:
Posters for all 3 poetry forms
A short definition page for the poetry forms
A brainstorming sheet for Summer Break ideas
3 two-page sets of teaching printables for the students for each poetry
Palm leaf patterns and a tree trunk pattern with coconut cut outs
Sample pictures for assembly
