This is version two of a poetry unit test that has been previously posted (and originally designed for the middle grades). This version can be used for a larger variety of grades as it has been made a bit simpler so that teachers can either use it as a differentiated version for their class or a slightly easier version for younger grades.
There are four parts (like in the first version):
Part A is fill in the blanks with a box at the bottom containing the words that need to be used.
Part B is multiple choice to give students a chance to identify certain terms or types of poetry that were mentioned in class.
Part C is where students are to write their own examples of literary terms that have been discussed and practiced in class.
Part D is where the student identifies the rhyme scheme of a Shel Silverstein poem called "Diving Board".
Part E is poetry analysis of the poem "A Pizza the Size of the Sun" by Jack Prelutsky - including identification of the rhyme scheme, underlining the alliteration in the poem and answering questions that include the identification of simile, metaphor, personification, theme, mood and hyperbole by students.
The test is five pages and includes an answer key.
