If you are looking for thematic anthology unit using poetry, then this will guide your students through common themes, figurative language, and writing their own poem. This unit is EASILY adaptable to any theme, student or teacher chosen!
This unit contains a reflection journal with questions for Days 1-3, an outdoor walk or window look for gathering descriptive information, poetry writing, exposure to poetry terms including: metaphor, alliteration, simile, personification, mood, tone, and others of your choosing. Additional space on the poetry term sheet has been left blank for any of your own additions.
Teachers will need to guide students through figurative language terms and use example poems included (winter theme) or have their own available.
A poetry/ mosaic project complete with simple points based rubric is included for students to begin toward the end of the second or third day.
