Poetry Unit - Here is a complete FIVE week poetry writer's workshop unit, where students are introduced to 14 different styles of poetry. This unit is NO PREP...all you have to do is print and teach! I have included a planning guide, showing how many days to allot for each style of poem.
Included in this unit for each poem is an introduction page; where the style of poetry is introduced in student-friendly language. On that page is also an original example of the poem (so you don't have to try to create one yourself!). Also, for each poem is an included "Poem Planning Sheet" which will walk students through the process of writing each style of poem. After students have written their rough drafts of the poem on the "planning sheet", each poem has 2-3 cute, final copy paper choices to choose from. Finally, I have included multiple Poetry Book cover templates, and an About the Author page!
This unit will do all the work for you in guiding students through 14 different styles of poetry and creating a wonderful portfolio or Open House portfolio piece. I have also included various rubrics that can be used for grading an individual poem, or for grading the entire unit!
The Styles of Poetry Included in this File:
-Animal Alliteration Poetry
-I Am Poetry
