The moon, the sun, and the stars have frequently been used as subjects of poets. The sample poem that I wrote about the moon and its moonlight will help your students get started writing their own poems. I prompt them to brainstorm rhyming words, similes, metaphors and other words. Definitions of simile and metaphor are provided as well as a drawing of moonlight streaming through a window. The second page is a basically a form on which students write their own poem. Being a word document this lesson is easy to edit and print out.
