Looking for an easy way to write poetry with your elementary students? Use a great mentor text (like Quick as a Cricket by Audrey Wood), and you're off to a great start!
In this product, I include a template and a word bank for your students to use to create a simile poem after you read Quick as a Cricket together.
I show you examples of the poems created by students in my first grade enrichment group and videos we made on the iPad. This lesson took an hour altogether, from blank page to finished poem and video. We had fun and created some amazing poetry! This template is flexible enough for any elementary grade level. I know you'll enjoy writing simile poems with your students!
Here are video examples of our finished simile poems, created by first graders:
Tough as a Lion
Lazy as a Tablet
Quick as a Fly
Happy as a Dog
I am always excited to connect with you!
