Included in this poetry resource are 20 poetry formulas to help students write a wide variety of poems. I have used these pages in my own classroom, and I created this product so that students would be provided with a definition, examples, tips, brainstorming space, and a final writing section all on the same page. It has helped my students write many great poems to take home to their parents after in their very own poetry book. Students write about what is important to them and learn that poetry can truly express one’s own unique creativity and personality. Students of all abilities can create beautiful poetry by using the tips and the formulas provided on each sheet.
These pages are great for independent work or as center activities. They can be given as special gifts to parents or grandparents. Once students complete their poetry books, you could even have a poetry reading party where students could share and invite parents and special guests. You will be surprised at how many of your students who are reluctant readers and writers will find themselves loving poetry. It is my students’ favorite writing they do all year!
I have included posters to help students learn the different elements of poetry and poetic terms and one that gives definitions and examples of the different types of figurative language. You will also find publishing pages to use for students to write their final poetry copies along with an illustration.
