What educators are saying

Poetry is so hard to get kids engaged in, and I feel like this will be a game changer. It's highly engaging, lots of fun, and very well put together.
We are using this both in class and with those who have to be at home learning. The students love it and it was very easy for them to use.

    Description

Are you ready to teach your students to read and write poetry? This bundle includes everything you need to set up poetry centers and have your students write their own poetry too.

The poetry unit includes lessons to help develop students' knowledge of reading and writing poetry. It covers the characteristics of poetry and gives students a chance to write similes, metaphors, haikus, recipe poems (using rhyming patterns), tongue twisters (using alliteration), and cinquain poems.

There are Google slides as well as PDF, JPEG, and PowerPoint files included to use for whatever format works best for you and your students. The examples include each form of poetry as well as example poems from fourth-grade students. A digital and PDF format student poetry journal for students to publish each form of poetry is also included.

The poetry centers include ten centers, student work pages, directions to prep each center as well as everything needed to prep the centers, bulletin board letters, lined paper for published poems, letters to parents, and folder labels. There is prep required to assemble the centers such as cutting (and laminating if you'd like to last from year to year). The centers focus on reading and writing poetry with a focus on line breaks, rhythm, word choice, onomatopoeia, visualizing, and finding inspiration.
