My Shadow is a timeless poem written by the well known Scottish poet, Robert Louis Stevenson. In this unit, your students will investigate the craft and structure Stevenson used to create this childhood classic, and they’ll come away with a deeper understanding of what it means to analyze poetry on their own.
Students will explore the science of shadows using informational text, discover the power of similes, sort and decode rhyming words, order synonyms by their meanings, perform puppet plays, design and create shadow art, and more! Also included in the unit are numerous activities and resources to further enrich your students’ learning around the theme of shadows and light.
Lift your students’ exposure to classic literature and complex text while tying their learning to the Common Core Standards. Watch them soar. . . and love it!
