Students explore themes of individuality, inequality, heritage, and freedom in classic American poems including Naming Myself by Barbara Kingsolver, I Hear America Singing by Walt Whitman, and I, Too by Langston Hughes. Handouts for poems scaffold with before, during, and post-reading strategies.
