This project consists of four tests which are given periodically throughout our poetry unit. To help our students with poetry, figurative language, and sound device terms and meanings, we have them take notes in their journals - giving definitions and examples of each of the different kinds of poems, as well as figurative language and sound device terms. We create a poem of each type together, and then students create their own (also illustrating, painting, etc.)and make a poetry booklet. The journals and tests help the students with state required vocabulary in literature. Some of these include simile, metaphor, personification, hyperbole, haiku, diamante, cinquain, alliteration, assonance, free verse, onomatopoeia, rhythm, etc.
