Product Description

Use this resource to solidify student understanding with point-slope form. Students will receive guided notes, a sorting activity, discussion questions, an exit slip and a ten question assessment. This bundle of resources is the perfect combination for a solid lesson on point-slope form.

The half page of guided notes can be used as an introduction to point-slope form. The point-slope formula is provided along with some practice problems. Students will also change an equation in point-slope form to slope-intercept form.

The point-slope sorting activity asks students to sort twenty-four pieces into 8 sets of three. The triplets that match will be the same linear equation. One piece of the triplet may be written in point-slope form, slope-intercept form, one point and the slope, or two coordinate pairs. Students will examine the pieces in order to sort them into eight sets of triplets. There are eight pieces with a color/shape listed in the bottom right corner. Those eight pieces will not go together. Each one of these eight pieces should be matched with two other pieces. An additional page is included for students to complete their work. This page includes the eight pieces with a color/shape listed in the bottom. It guides students to rewrite the equation in slope-intercept form and to identify the slope and coordinate pair from the initial equation.

You may want to copy the five discussion problems on the back of the sorting activity. These questions work very nicely as a partner or small group activity. The questions ask students to explain their mathematical knowledge of point-slope form. This is a nice way to incorporate writing into math. The following is an example of one of the questions - If you are given two points, (0,5) and (1,2), explain how to write an equation in point-slope form. You will hear great discussions as you circulate around the room. You will also know where to add support, if needed.

In order to asses student knowledge, a four question exit slip and a ten question assessment are provided. Answer keys are included with all of the resources.
