These Point and Read Other Long Vowels Boom Cards™ for Boom Learning™ help students decode, comprehend, and read sentences with other long vowel patterns. (This deck focuses on y as a long i, y as a long e, eigh, igh, ight, long i and long o when followed by two consonants as in "hold", "child", and "kind", ey, and ay.) The cards also promote fluency, sight word recognition, comprehension, word recognition, and phonics. If you love my 2nd Edition No Prep Reading Intervention Binder (long vowels) OR if you love my No Prep Boom Cards for Reading Intervention Bundle, you will LOVE this next series, which takes students from decoding words to reading sentences! This is a digital version of the decoding and fluency "other long vowels" sections from my 2nd Edition No Prep Binder. It contains different sentences and an added comprehension exercise, making it a great extension pack and perfect for extra explicit phonics practice!

Students will love practicing their decoding skills with these digital beginning reader sentences, and you will love the simplicity, direct instruction and practice, and student engagement! These task cards are self-checking through the Boom Learning™️ platform. These task cards can be used and played on any device that has access to the Internet, such as a tablet, mobile device, laptop, or computer!

How do you play and use this digital resource?

Touch the dots and read each word within the sentence. Then, click on the picture that matches the sentence. The two pictures that students have to choose from on each card have been strategically chosen to help students focus on their comprehension of the sentence. For example, in the sentence "Look at the night sky.", the child must read and then choose between a picture of night sky or a picture of a daytime sky. This requires the student to read, stop, and think about what was just read, as well as pay close attention to their decoding skills. The student must read and comprehend the entire sentence in order to choose the correct picture after decoding.

Who is this resource designed for?

This pack was designed for first grade students, OR, any student who is still working on reading words with other long vowel patterns. It's important to focus on the phonics SKILLS your students need to be reinforced and taught when it comes to phonics instruction, rather than the grade level. Therefore, many second grade and third grade teachers of struggling readers and special education teachers have used this with their students who are still working on decoding long vowel patterns.
