Toothy® Task Kits- an original idea from Angie Olson at ©Lucky Little Learners, LLC.
This pack is part of the 3rd Grade Reading Toothy Bundle.
Your students will receive all the practice they need to reinforce the skill of distinguishing their own point of view from that of the narrator or character(s).
Students will first read a short story. Students will then answer open-ended questions to identify who is telling the story – a narrator or a particular character. They will also be asked to identify what point of view the story is told through – first, second, or third person. Students will be asked to identify what the narrator or character’s point of view is on a particular topic in the story and to reflect on whether they agree or disagree with the narrator or character’s point of view in the story. Students will need to use the information in the text to answer the questions. Students will need to use some inferencing to answer questions, as is expected from a third-grade student, allowing for practice with higher-order thinking and comprehension.
There are 24 stories included in this set. Each story is within the third-grade text complexity band. Each story comes with six questions about the point of view and directs students to identify text evidence to support their answers. Each story includes a clip-art image to support English Learners with the tasks. The suggested answers on the back of the stories allow for these activities to be self-paced and self-correcting and/or for the activity to be used in a small-group or whole-class discussion.
